SCONE

SCONE - "The Horse Capital"

In the heart of the Horse Capital of Australia

Known as the "Horse Capital of Australia", Scone is bursting with horse studs, and is renowned as the host of the "Scone Horse Festival", which includes the Scone Cup - the biggest country race day in Australia.

Scone's horsebreeding history dates back to the early 1800's, when George Bowman - a first settler and horse breeder - chose to settle in the area. Since then, horses such as the great Makybe Diva have been trained in the district.

Hillview is the perfect base as you explore Scone's rich horse culture.

SEE & DO

THINGS TO SEE & DO

Nature Lovers

Scone is surrounded by beautiful mountains and countryside. There are several national parks, including Towarri National Park, Lake Glenbawn State Park and Wingen Maid Nature Reserve.

Burning Mountain Reserve

Home to a 6000 year old natural coal seam, Burning Mountain is a must see site. With walks, scenic views, a multitude of bird life, and picnic grounds.

Amazing! Must see!

Horse Lovers

Aside from the Scone Horse Festival which lasts 1 week in May, tours can be organised for the local horse studs.  There are also several race meetings thoughout the year, aside from the prestigious Scone Cup held the final weekend of the Horse Festival.

Visit Murrurundi

Our favourite neighbouring town, Murrurundi has a charm all of its own. The picturesque 30 minute drive is stand alone worth it, but the charm and hospitality of Murrurundi once you arrive will definitely make you happy you made the trip.

Warbirds over Scone

A bi-annual event, the Warbirds over Scone is a spectacular day which sees restored fighter planes take to the airways over Scone. A must see for aviation fans.

Bicycle Riding

If you don't have your own bike, they are available for hire at the visitors centre across the road. Bike around town or visit one of the surrounding national parks or bike tracks for a fun (or gruelling) day out!
